GE Healthcare signed an MOU with the Punjab Government to help train primary healthcare workers such as the Lady Health Workers and Community Midwives in ultrasound technology. Under this MOU, a training facility will be established by the Punjab Government and GE to provide hands on training according to globally designed manuals by international experts.
The master trainers will be trained by international experts. The training centre will be established at Shehbaz Sharif Mother and Children Complex located within the District Head Quarter hospital, Sheikhupura. 60% of the country’s population resides in Punjab and there is an urgent need to provide health facilities for mother and child especially in peri-urban and rural areas of the province.
This initiative is heralding a new age in patient care as pregnant mothers can now be tended to by primary healthcare workers to detect any pregnancy complications. Obstetric complications are a leading risk factors to the lives of mother and child in the country.
Pakistan, in common with many other developing countries, has an unacceptably high maternal mortality rate, exceeded only by the MMR of countries such as Afghanistan and Nepal in the South Asian region. The country is committed to improve these statistics under the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations.
